Clinton firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a senior care center yesterday, according to a release from the Clinton Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a laundry room at Alverno Senior Care, 849 13th Avenue North, on August 23 at about 3:15 p.m. Their response included a ladder truck, two engines and three ambulances for a total of 13 personnel. An automatic sprinkler activated in the area and police officer used a portable fire extinguisher to put out the fire before the fire department arrived.

When firefighters arrived, they confirmed that the fire was extinguished. They found heavy smoke conditions in the affected area and worked to remove the remaining smoke and secure the sprinkler system. The fire was contained to the laundry room.

Residents were evacuated from an impacted section of the third floor while others were sheltered in place. There were no injuries reported.

Firefighters checked the building for fire, smoke and water damage before turning the scene over to facility administration and maintenance personnel. Investigators determined the fire originated in a wall mounted fan in the laundry room.
