Portion of West Lake Park Gate 1 road will close temporarily

Scott County Conservation will temporarily close a portion of Gate 1 Road at West Lake Park for Phase 1 of the road improvement project, a news release says.

Beginning Thursday, Aug. 27, Gate 1 Road will be closed from the second entrance to Summit Campground south to the Lake of the Hills boat ramp for resurfacing. Summit Campground will remain open during this phase of construction.

During the closure, access to facilities beyond the construction area will be restricted. Visitors should follow posted signs and avoid the road construction zone.

Scott County Conservation will work with the contractor to reopen the roadway on weekends. However, the construction schedule remains dependent on weather and site conditions and may change with limited notice.

Visitors are encouraged to check Scott County Conservation’s Facebook page for the latest updates before traveling to West Lake Park.

One of my favorite grapes of the year is now arriving in stores. Here is what you should know about Tear Drops grapes. Tear Drops are a unique seedless green grape, that have a more elongated shape, than being round. They were introduced in 2020 by Grapery, out of California. Originally there was another variety called Tear Drops that were a red grape. They were originally called Witch Fingers grapes. But they were discontinued because they proved difficult to grow. Now the green grapes are the only variety in Grapery's Tear Drops line.

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
