Davenport

Police investigate shots fired in Davenport

UPDATE: According to a release from the Davenport Police Department, at approximately 5:09 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of E. 29th St. in reference to the report of shots fired. Initial investigation indicates one person sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. Police are currently investigating. No other injuries have been reported.

EARLIER: At 7:00 p.m., a large police presence remained in the vicinity of Garfield Park and the immediate area in Davenport. Several squad cars were lined up in the area of Davenport Ave. and 29th St. Our Quad Cities News saw officers talking to neighbors in the area.

Police took photos of and searched an Elantra parked near the intersection.

We do not know details about the incident and will stay in touch with Davenport Police to provide updates when they become available.

All police presence in the park and near Garfield school was gone by 7:10 p.m.

Community Policy

We continue to see rotation around an upper low in Eastern Canada. This upper low has funneled down a lot of dry air at the surface from New England to Georgia. Dew points are in the 50s and should remain so today across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. The cold air aloft makes for an unstable atmosphere and that could result in some scattered pop up showers or the odd thunderstorm but I think if that happens it should be mostly north of Interstate 84 in New York and New England. Otherwise for New Jersey it is no worse than a mix of sun and clouds today with most highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Most lows by Wednesday morning will be in the mid 50s to lower 60s from cooler inlands spots to warmer coast and urban areas.

A Salmonella Recall Now Reaches Walmart, Target, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods

A widening food recall connected to a multistate Salmonella outbreak now covers dips, salsas, guacamole and prepared meals sold by some of America's largest grocery chains. Taylor Fresh Foods announced the voluntary recall on Aug. 9 after learning that jalapeno supplier Coast Citrus Distributors was recalling peppers because of possible Salmonella contamination. The affected jalapenos came from a grower in Sinaloa, Mexico, identified as the likely source of an ongoing outbreak.
