Iowa vape registry law upheld
By Brian Weckerly,
5 hours agoIowa Attorney General Brenna Bird touted a recent court win for her office.
Iowa won a lawsuit that vacates the injunction preventing enforcement of Iowa’s vape registry law. House File 2677 created an official state directory to regulate the distribution and sale of vapor products in Iowa by creating a directory of approved vapor products.
Bird says illegal Chinese vapes generate more than $11 billion in annual retail sales, making up more than eight percent of all vape sales nationwide. She says the marketing of those illegal vapes is more concerning. Bird says a lot of the Chinese vapes that flooded the market are actually illegal in China.
“China markets these candy-flavored vapes, with flavors like cotton candy and blue raspberry, to American kids while they are banned in their own country,” Bird said, “They mislabel these unregulated products full of carcinogens to slip through customs, putting Iowa kids at risk. As a mom and a prosecutor, I am grateful for the decision of the court to uphold Iowa’s vape registry law to inform and protect Iowans from these illegal foreign vapes.”
