Tallahassee's year in streets filled with upgrades, repaving
2025 has been a whirlwind year for Street Scene. Not to be outdone, 2026 is shaping up to begin with a bang then continue the winds blowing in all directions as demanding residents force local streets to be resurfaced. Other progress includes: Utility access being adjusted flush with the elevation grade of our roads. Stop signs and yield signs replaced with new up-to-specification brilliance. Traffic signals installed before the tragedy of fatal crashes. New guardrail sections installed where there were none. Obliterated pavement markings restriped. Washboard dirt roads graded with better regularity. Arrow boards and advanced curve warning signs replaced with high intensity reflective quality. New electronic flashing stop signs installed at our high speed rural road crossings. Railroad crossings maintained to acceptable at-grade standards. Pedestrian crossings are now at center stage of our political class, especially around schools, colleges and universities. Sidewalk repair received federal funding to ensure pedestrian safety from trip and fall. Water runoff is getting noticed as causing vehicle hydroplaning when allowed to pool in the wheel tracks. Attention is welcomed by those with disabilities needing assistance when traversing a busy intersection on crutches, in wheelchairs or relying on white canes and audible walk / don’t
