Beloit Memorial High School and UW-Whitewater graduate Tiffany Morton has been named the new head coach of the University of West Alabama women’s basketball program in Livingston, Ala., Interim Director of Athletics Brett Gilliland announced Saturday.
Morton, the 12th head coach in program history, starts her new job on May 1. She replaces retiring Rusty Cram, who guided the NCAA Division II team to a 6-22 record last season, including 5-19 in the Gulf South Conference.
“We are very happy to welcome Coach Morton to Livingston,” Gilliland stated in a press release. “Throughout the process, it was apparent to everyone involved that Tiffany is the right person to lead our women’s program forward.
“Tiffany fits the values of who we are as an athletic department and University. She brings a wealth of experience from every level of college basketball to our program. We are excited to announce she is a part of the UWA family.”
Morton spent the 2024 season at the University of Wisconsin, where she served as an assistant women’s basketball coach. She helped the Badgers win 15 games, the second-most in program history, and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
While at Wisconsin, she coached three players to postseason honors, led by Serah Williams’s First Team and All-Defensive Big Ten selections and was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Prior to coaching with the Badgers, Morton spent the 2022 season as an assistant coach at Rice University, where she was a part of the top recruiting class for Conference USA and worked with post players.
Morton has also been an assistant at Georgia State, Mercer, Wagner, LSU and Montevallo. During her time at Mercer, she was a part of the development of Kahlia Lawrence, who was a three-time Player of the Year in the Southern Conference and selected by the Minnesota Lynx as the 24th pick in the 2018 WNBA Draft.
A three-year member of the Warhawks women’s basketball team, Morton was a member of the 29-4 2007-08 squad that advanced Final Four at the NCAA Division III Championships, where they finished third in the nation. She averaged 14.9 points and 8.7 rebounds and was named a Fourth Team All-American by D3hoops.com.
Morton graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in coaching. She also earned her master’s at UW-Whitewater in science and education with an emphasis in professional development in 2012.
She began her coaching career at her alma mater.
“I am truly honored to work for this amazing institution and excited for the opportunity to lead the University of West Alabama Women’s Basketball program,” said Morton. “I will strive daily to elevate the young women in this program not only to be winners on the court, but to be winners in life.”
Morton was inducted into the Beloit Historical Society’s Everett-Perring Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
