Weekly Safety Report: Crash and Fatality in Morrison County, Minnesota
Two incidents occurred in Morrison County, Minnesota this week. The first incident involved a one-vehicle crash near Upsala, where a 17-year-old boy lost control of the vehicle, went into a ditch, and hit a tree. The driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. The second incident took place at a firewood processing plant outside of Little Falls, resulting in the death of a 39-year-old man who was trapped in a firewood processing machine. Despite rescue attempts, the man died at the scene.
Bowlus pedestrian seriously injured after being struck by truck
A Bowlus man was seriously injured Sunday, Dec. 10 in an early morning accident when a vehicle hit a pedestrian in St. Cloud. Shawn Raymond Kimmons, 19 of Bowlus, suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident, reported shortly before 4 a.m. on Highway 23 near Lincoln Avenue on the east side of St. Cloud, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. One Person Seriously Hurt When Hit By Pickup
ST. CLOUD (WJON News) -- One person was seriously hurt when they were hit by a pickup Sunday morning in St. Cloud. The Minnesota State Patrol says a pickup truck driven by 32-year-old Matthew Riekena of St. Cloud was going north on Highway 23 near Lincoln Avenue when it hit 19-year-old Shawn Kimmons of Bowlus.

Gross misdemeanor charges filed
Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff have filed gross misdemeanor complaints against the following individuals: • Alex Christopher Packard, 35, Milaca — In connection with a Nov. 17 incident, Packard was charged with two counts of third-degree DWI. • Harriet Jane Lewis, 49, Brooklyn Park — In connection with a Nov. 23 incident, Lewis was charged with obstructing the legal process by interfering with a peace officer. • Cody Jay Blais, 22, Upsala — In connection with a Nov. 26 incident, Blais was charged with one count of third-degree DWI. • Anita Ellen Vernier, 57, Little Falls — In connection with a Nov. 27 incident, Vernier was charged with two counts of second-degree DWI.
Borntreger charged with failing to register as predator
Abraham K. Borntreger, 33, Flensburg, was charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of failing to register as a predatory offender. The charge stems from an Oct. 15 incident. Borntreger has an obligation to register as a predatory offender due to a criminal conviction that requires registration. Borntreger’s duty to register began Jan. 24, and he is required to continue registering through at least Jan. 23, 2033, according to a criminal complaint filed in Morrison County District Court. ...
Cass Lake man charged with possession
Justin Lee Hunt, 33, Cass Lake, was charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. The charge stems from a Dec. 1 incident, when a caller from a convenience store located in Royalton reported there was a suspicious male subject inside the store. Per the report, the male subject was falling asleep and falling into racks in the store. The reporting party said the subject left in a vehicle heading north toward Little Falls. ...

A man accused of assaulting a woman at gunpoint in Benton County was apprehended Tuesday, Dec. 5 in Little Falls. Benjamin Brian Nelson, 42 of Rice, was booked into the Benton County Jail on a felony charge of second degree assault. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault. Alexandria, MN (KXRA) – A teen was injured following a crash over the weekend in central Minnesota. According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, they received a report of a one-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of 70th Avenue and 20th Street, two miles east of Upsala.
Albany Teenager Taken to Hospital After Crash in Morrison County
(KNSI) – A teenager from Albany was brought to the hospital after a crash in Morrison County. The sheriff’s office says the 17-year-old boy was two miles east of Upsala when he lost control at the intersection of 70th Avenue and 20th Street. The Albany teen went into the ditch and struck a tree. The accident happened around 1:30 on Sunday morning.
Weekly Safety Report: Rollover Crash and Pedestrian Fatality in Morrison County, Minnesota
Two incidents occurred in Morrison County, Minnesota this week. In the first incident, a 40-year-old Rice resident was injured in a rollover crash on Haven Road near Little Falls. The driver lost control of the vehicle on an icy patch and it rolled over into a ditch. The second incident involved a 61-year-old Baxter woman who was fatally struck by a pickup truck while crossing Highway 371 in Baxter. The driver of the pickup was not under the influence of alcohol.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Saturday at 1:25am their office received a report of a one-vehicle accident with injuries at the intersection of 70th Avenue and 20th Street, two miles east of Upsala in Elmdale Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, a 17-year-old juvenile male from of Albany was traveling west on 20th Street. The driver lost control of the vehicle, went in the ditch and hit a tree. The 17-year-old juvenile male was transported to St. Cloud Hospital with unknown injuries.

--The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Monday at approximately 6:23 am, they received a report of a one-vehicle accident on 400th Avenue north of 263rd Street, approximately nine miles east of Harding in Richardson Township. According to the Sheriff’s Office, 60-year-old Joseph Virnig of Hillman was traveling south on 400th Avenue when his vehicle struck a downed tree in the roadway. Virnig was transported by Onamia Ambulance to Onamia Hospital with unknown injuries.

Schultz gets probation for financial fraud
Tara Lynn Schultz, 36, Little Falls, was sentenced in Morrison County district Court to five years of supervised probation and fined $100 for one felony count of financial transaction card fraud. The charge stems from a Sept. 22, 2022, report, received by the Little Falls Police Department from a victim who stated they either lost or misplaced their credit card as they were traveling through town. The victim said between Sept. 20 - 22, 2022, there were several unauthorized charges on the missing card. ...

Larry Allen Rolla, 44, Swanville, previously of Royalton, was sentenced in Morrison County District Court to five years of supervised probation for one felony count of fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance. Antonio Randell Oatis, 34, Little Falls, and Kasandra Marie Kuhl, 25, Little Falls, were charged in Morrison County District Court with one felony count each of second-degree assault and one felony count each of third-degree assault.
