Some communities pick up several extra feet of snow each winter simply because of where they sit. Lake-effect influence can be broken into three tiers, known as the primary, secondary, and tertiary snowbelts.

A gloomy Saturday forecast, but Sunday will be much nicer
The chilly air mass that pushed into the Valley on Friday will remain in place as the weekend gets underway. Temperatures will struggle into the mid 40s on Saturday, and a gusty breeze will make it feel even cooler. Low pressure will spin over the eastern Great Lakes, resulting in some showers affecting our area from time to time. The most numerous raindrops should be found in locations north of Rt 224. We expect the shower activity to wind down early Saturday evening.
