In March, the federal government approved a set of appropriation bills with $426 million in infrastructure funding for the state of Maine, including $5 million for a pair of unique riverfront revitalization projects in the city of Lewiston. The funding includes $3.9 million for a pilot project to reimagine the city’s historic canal system as a community asset with adjacent park amenities, as well as $1.1 million to reconstruct Beech Street to improve access to the city’s waterfront park, Simard-Payne Park, and to an adjacent future museum.
MSAD 75 introduces free service to prevent violence in schools
The local school district plans to roll out a new option for students and others to anonymously report potential threats at school before they escalate into violence. Maine School Administrative District 75 Superintendent of Schools Heidi O’Leary told the school board at its meeting on Thursday, April 25, that the district will introduce the service, known as the Say Something Anonymous Reporting System, to students, faculty and staff with a series of informational meetings and training sessions.

New visitation facility opening in Lewiston this week
LEWISTON, Maine — A new facility is opening Wednesday in Lewiston. It will offer monitored family visitation for families in Maine with children in state custody. The latest data shows there are more than 2,500 Maine children in DHHS custody, according to the state's child welfare dashboard. While in state custody, visitation appointments are one of the only ways for kids to maintain relationships with their parents and other family members.
