'The Voice's Top 9 Perform for a Chance to Make the Top 5 and the Finale

The Voice semifinals took place Monday night with performances by the Top 9 artists – Asher HaVon , Bryan Olesen , Josh Sanders , Karen Waldrup , Maddi Jane , Madison Curbelo , Nathan Chester , Serenity Arce , and Tae Lewis .

Coaches Reba McEntire , John Legend , and Chance the Rapper each have two artists remaining on their teams, while Dan + Shay didn’t lose anyone in last week’s Top 12 vote, so they still have all three artists remaining.

It was Hometown Week on The Voice , so each artist took us home with them. For Josh it was to Kannapolis, NC; for Madison, Westfield, MA; for Serenity, Jupiter, FL; for Maddie and Nathan, Chicago, IL; for Bryan, it’s Lincoln, NE; for Karen, Mandeville, LA; for Asher it was Selma, AL; and for Tae, Goldsboro, NC.

The Top 9 performed a solo song dedicated to their hometown and the people who supported them, plus they will team up in trios for performances inspired by the motion picture IF.

Then America voted and on Tuesday night host Carson Daly will reveal the results. Four artists will go home, no matter what team they’re on, and next week the Top 5 will perform in the finale and the winner of The Voice Season 25 will be revealed.

Here's the breakdown for The Voice Top 9

Josh Sanders

Song: “White Horse” by Chris Stapleton

Reba said: “Absolutely wonderful. You drew the audience in. Your vocal was incredible. Stage presence, firm, strong. You didn’t smile just like we talked about. You looked tough.”

Madison Curbelo

Song: “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper

Dan Smyers said: “You keep getting better and better. You are so full of positivity.”

Shay Mooney said: “You are someone I would want my kids to look up to, someone that radiates life. I’m so incredibly proud to be a part of your journey.”

The first trio of the night, performing songs about the power of imagination, was Maddi Jane, Bryan Olesen and Nathan Chester who sang “Just Like Heaven.”

Serenity Arce

Song: “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love) by Ariana Grande

Chance said: “I am proud just like always. Beautiful performance. I think you made a great choice in picking that song. It really highlighted your voice.”

The second trio performing imaginative songs assembled country artists Josh Sanders, Tae Lewis and Karen Waldrup together on “Forever Young.”

Maddi Jane

Song: “Greedy” by Tate McRae

Chance said: “That was insane. That was incredible. We talked a lot about not sacrificing the vocal for the choreography and you made sure that all you intentional moments were there. It was a Grammy-level performance.”

Nathan Chester

Song: “Try a Little Tenderness” by Otis Redding

John said: “The only thing that was missing was the splits. That was incredible. The journey you took us on. You showed every side of your voice and your skill as a performer. The crowd went crazy for it.”

The final trio of the night was Asher HaVon, Madison Curbelo and Serenity Arce performing “Fix You.”

Bryan Olesen

Song: “Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)” by Phil Collins

John said: “I loved it. We all loved it. I really felt you connecting to the lyric. I loved how you held each note with patience, subtlety and grace. It made the performance so beautiful and effective and moving.”

Karen Waldrup

Song: “Stay” by Sugarland

Shay said: “That was unbelievable. I am so proud of you. It was a scary song to sing. It was a vulnerable moment. You wore your heart on your sleeve. I think it paid off.”

Dan said: “We knew in our hearts you would deliver and that’s exactly what you did. That was the final piece of the puzzle to show everyone you can do everything.”

Asher HaVon

Song: “Irreplaceable” by Beyoncé

Reba said: “You coming out and singing this Beyoncé song, I am absolutely proud of you. You floored me. Your stage presence was magnificent.”

Tae Lewis

Song: "“Amazed” by Lonestar

Dan said: “They saved the best for last. Iconic performance. You deserve to be in this position.”

Shay said: “You can’t send this man home. You’ve fought for every single ounce of success you’ve had on this show.”
