LIMESTONE, Tenn. (WJHL) — Peak camping season is about to begin and David Crockett Birthplace State Park officials are getting prepared.

Park Manager Joe Nowotarski told News Channel 11 that Memorial Day weekend kicks off the busy season.

“Our campground is going to be at capacity,” Nowotarski said. “I expect most of the parking lots here in the park are going to be full and there’s going to be a lot of people out here enjoying the place.”

All 88 camping spots have already been fully booked for Memorial Day weekend but preparing for the busy season requires all hands on deck.

“We bring on our seasonal staff, seasonal maintenance, seasonal clerks, seasonal interpreters, and we just come to life for the year,” Nowotarski said. “Our visitor center just opened up two days ago after a long remodel, so the gift shop and information desk is open and our museum space is still up and coming.”

With all the visitors coming into the park, officials keep the event schedule packed full of activities.

“You’re going to see five to ten fun interpretive programs every weekend throughout this summer,” Nowotarski said. “Things like history hikes, nature hikes, kayaking programs on the river, flintlock and historical demonstrations, things like that.”

Nowotarski said the best thing for the park is the people who come to visit and admire all that David Crockett Birthplace State Park has to offer.
