Mississippi is full of small towns where Hollywood stars once walked the same sidewalks your family can stroll today. This guide shows you eight of them, with real places kids can see, touch, and remember long after the trip ends.

This Mississippi Bookstore Started In An Apartment And Became A Literary Landmark

A bookstore that began in an apartment now draws readers from hundreds of miles away. I love that story. It proves a big idea can start in a very small space. This Mississippi shop sits upstairs in a building with a restaurant below. Shelves climb toward the ceiling, and small reading corners are tucked all around.

Lodi, Montgomery County: The Town That Helped Shape Winona

Appalachian Community Histories – Lodi, Montgomery County: The Town That Helped Shape Winona. In the eastern countryside of Montgomery County, Mississippi, the community of Lodi survives as a reminder of a time when the region’s towns were still taking shape, and the arrival of railroads could determine which settlements prospered and which gradually faded. Today, Lodi is an unincorporated community, but during the nineteenth century, it possessed the institutions of a recognized town, including a municipal government, a post office, and residents whose lives became connected to some of the most consequential events in Mississippi history. Its story includes the Civil War, Reconstruction, the development of neighboring Winona, and the agricultural economy that supported generations of families throughout the surrounding countryside.
