Construction will begin soon on a $60 million dollar facility that University of Kentucky officials say is their first new agriculture teaching building in 35 years. Carmen Agouridis is the senior associate dean for the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

“It’s going to allow us to have larger spaces because our student population has obviously grown, but it's going to be very flexible space for our instructors. So they can reconfigure the classroom have new technology in there that's going to let them teach students in a way that goes beyond what I think they're capable of doing.”

Agouridis said the new ag sciences building will have huddle spaces for solo or small group studying and house the college’s recruiting and advising staff. She said plans also include a classroom for a new companion animal program – with flooring to make it easier to clean up after accidents.

“When we talk about companion animals, I think a lot of people naturally think of your dog or your cat. But there are other kinds of animals as well that can be companions such as horses, or there may be other kinds of small animals, it really kind of varies.”

A UK spokesman said the building should be ready for use by humans and animals in March of 2026.
