The Lexington Police Department is launching a new website that would help them solve open murder cases dating back to 1974.

The Unsolved Homicide Website would allow visitors to submit tips and information that would help assist detectives. Each case’s webpage includes the victim’s name, case number and an overview of the case.

“We're constantly looking at ways to improve and adapt to current trends, and how we can get more information to our investigators,” Lexington Police Lieutenant Brian Peterson said. “So we're actually looking at getting away from the term cold case. We felt that was important, to highlight that all of our unsolved homicides are being investigated.”

Peterson says it’s a way for people to easily submit information without fear.

“It's completely anonymous,” Peterson said. “We’ll take any information, the smallest piece of information could be crucial to us and could tie that investigation together. Or if people feel comfortable, they can leave us their contact information.”

The department is currently asking for photos of any victims so their website profiles can be updated. Information on how to access the website can be found online at WEKU dot org.
