LEWISTON, Utah — A chicken barn at Oakdell Egg Farms in Lewiston caught fire Tuesday afternoon and eventually collapsed. Thousands of chickens perished in the blaze.

A dispatch call for the fire went out at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday to fire departments around the county and from Franklin Count, Idaho. When firefighters arrived on scene at 2500 South and 1600 West in Lewiston, the barn structure was still standing but flames were showing. Eventually, the structure collapsed.

Firefighters were still on scene as late as 8:30 p.m., but the fire was under control by that point. The fire did not spread to any of the other adjacent chicken barns.

The cause of the fire or any other details have not yet been released by the fire departments on scene.

Roads around Oakdell Egg Farms were closed to traffic as the firefighters worked on the fire and brought in trucks of water.
