    Edith Emma Popplewell Dilley

Edith Emma Popplewell Dilley, 104, of Lewisburg, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at The Seasons Place.

Born March 24, 1920, in Butler, MO, she was a daughter of the late Dell and Dessie Thompson Popplewell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Butler Dilley; brothers, James and Pleas; and several nieces and nephews.

Over the years she was a hairdresser, telephone operator, and co-owned a restaurant with her husband, Joe, in California. After they moved to West Virginia, Edie went to work as a secretary at Bath County Pump Storage (Vepco), Yarid’s in The Greenbrier Hotel.

After her husband passed away, Edie moved back to Missouri to be close to family. She was there for 26 years, until the age of 100, when she decided to return to White Sulphur Springs, WV, to finish out her life. She called her adopted daughter, Rita Kincaid, to come and get her, and she has been her caregiver ever since.

She was a 50-year member of Marlinton #97 OES, BPW, Daughters of the American Revolutions, Gray Hair Ladies Democrats, and on the board of many organizations in Butler, MO. She loved playing cards with her friends in Butler, MO.

She moved into The Seasons Assistance Living Center in 1999. She loved it there, and they took very good care of her. She will be missed by many of her friends.

Those left are a great niece, Marjory Poppelwell; and great-great nephew, J.T Popplewell, both of Butler, MO.

In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 2 p.m. at May Chapel with Pastor Lowell O’Dell officiating. A burial of the cremains will follow in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the May Chapel Cemetery Fund, 23445 Pocahontas Trail, White Sulphur Springs, WV 24986.
