In a press release, the Leominster School Committee on Tuesday announced that McIntyre was one of three finalists for its top schools position. The other two are Renee McCall, assistant superintendent in Newton, and Robin Desmond, chief academic officer in Lowell.
Leominster is a city of about 43,000 residents in North Worcester County.
"This is an opportunity that came my way, and I am honored and humbled to be named a finalist for the Leominster Public Schools superintendent position," McIntyre told the Daily News Tuesday in an emailed statement. "Leominster is a phenomenal community and the school system is very well regarded for meeting the diverse needs of students and families."
The Leominster School Committee posted for its superintendent position on March 22 and received 11 applicants. A search committee narrowed it down to the three finalists.
Kevin McIntyre has worked for Milford Public Schools since 2013
McIntyre was Milford's assistant superintendent from 2013-16 before being promoted to superintendent. He was previously an assistant principal and principal in Tewksbury, and has been working in education since 1993.
"I have significant experience building and supporting high functioning leadership teams, recruiting and retaining diverse educators that reflect the broader community, collaboratively developing budgets that provide necessary resources to ensure high quality school experiences for all students and creating and sustaining partnerships that enhance educational opportunities and outcomes," he wrote.
A timeline for Leominster to choose a superintendent has not been finalized. According to the release, forums will be scheduled for all three finalists to meet with staff, students, parents and community members and surveys will be created for people to offer feedback.
