    Martin County Softball pushes through

    Martin County Baseball falls short in extra innings

    Martin County played the North Lenoir Hawks on Monday, May 20 in the state championship tournament.

    Both teams went with no runs scored in the first inning.

    North Lenoir began their rally in the second inning scoring one run and Martin County not scoring any.

    Neither team was able to fight by and score a run in the third or fourth innings.

    The Bears rallied and scored one run in the fifth inning with the Hawks not scoring any.

    Both teams went with no runs scored in the sixth and seventh innings.

    Going into extra innings of play neither team scored a run in the eighth or ninth innings.

    North Lenoir fought and was able to score one run in the tenth inning of play.

    Leaving a final score of 2-1, Hawks victory.

    North Lenoir had five hits and one error. With Martin County having two hits and two errors.

    Martin County Softball still in the fight

    The Martin County softball team traveled to Dunn to play the Midway Raiders on Tuesday, May 21.

    Midway started out the first inning strong, scoring six runs. Martin County was not able to score any runs in the first inning.

    Midway scored another run in the second inning with Martin County not scoring any.

    The Raiders continued their strong suit and scored four more runs in the third inning.

    Martin County was unable to score any runs in the third, fourth or fifth innings.

    In five short innings of play the final score of the game was 11-0, Raiders victory.

    Although Martin County fell short on Tuesday, they will be facing the Midway Raiders in two more games this week.
