🏡More development coming to contested area in Leesburg
A patch of one of Leesburg's most scenic stretches has become a hotbed of contention. The issue centers on development density for 120.5 acres total on two parcels on Sunnyside Drive near Gibson Terrace. One is 119 acres on the west side of Sunnyside and 18 acres across the street on Lake Harris.
Some of the property is wetlands, which resulted in density going from 1 house per acre to about 1.25, or 150 single-family homes.
Leesburg city commissioners on April 22 unanimously approved a subdivision plan for the Sunnyside area that has angered neighbors going back to 2020, ending the threat of a lawsuit by the developer .
