Lady Lake motorcyclist arrested after crash during Leesburg Bikefest
A Lady Lake motorcyclist is facing a drunk driving charge after a crash in downtown Leesburg during Bikefest. Scott Wayne Gilley, 58, who lives in The Quarters apartments, admitted he was “showing off” and doing a burnout when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed shortly after 6 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of South Fifth Street, according to an arrest report from the Leesburg Police Department.
Woman headed to prison in fatal hit-and-run on Rolling Acres Road
A woman is headed to prison after a hit-and-run crash on Rolling Acres Road killed a 40-year-old pedestrian. Tara Rene Schiessle, 32, of Lady Lake, pleaded no contest on Monday in Lake County Court to charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and leaving the scene of an accident involving serious injury. The former Lake Centre for Rehab physical therapist assistant has been sentenced to three years in state prison to be followed by three years of probation. Court records indicate the prosecutor’s office waived a four-year minimum mandatory sentence as part of the plea deal. A charge of insurance fraud was also dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

A husband and wife both landed in jail after a brawl at their home in The Villages. Leonard Victor Lezott, 64, and Dolores Ann Lezott, 66, were arrested at about 2 p.m. Monday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies at their home on Rose Croft Terrace in the Arlington Villas in the Village of Belvedere.
Employee of Mexican restaurant at square jailed for second time this year
An employee of a Mexican restaurant at Spanish Springs Town Square has been jailed for the second time this year. Miguel Lopez Lopez, 44, of Lady Lake, who works at Ay! Jalisco Mexican Cafe on Main Street, was driving a red Toyota Tacoma at about 11 a.m. Saturday on U.S. Hwy. 27/441 when an officer ran the vehicle’s license plate and discovered the vehicle’s registered owner does not possess a driver’s license, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. A traffic stop was initiated at the entrance to Spanish Springs, at U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Main Street.

LADY LAKE, Fla. - A Florida man has found himself behind bars after he allegedly stole two cases of beer and a bottle of Mountain Dew from Walmart. Thomas Watts, 50, was arrested and charged with larceny petit theft in the second degree after the incident that unfolded at the Walmart on Wedgewood Lane in Lady Lake on Saturday evening, according to an arrest affidavit from the Sumter County Sheriff's Office.

The officer found that Williams’ license was suspended and that she had been convicted of driving while license suspended in 2020 in Broward County.
