🐔 Meet the guy in charge at the new Chick-fil-A

🐪It's another Wednesday, folks!

While I tend to root for the independent restaurant owners or local small chains, I was a little sad to hear that Tijuana Flats is filing for bankruptcy . I haven't eaten at one since I moved here from Tampa Bay, but when I have visited, TS provided a great alternative to fast food and offer a deliciously fresh and healthy black bean option for their chimichanga.

Lake County still has three locations remaining as of this writing, in Leesburg, Mount Dora and Clermont .

The new owners will revamp the chain that started in Winter Park in 1995, but Joe Christina, who joined the brand in November 2022, will remain CEO of the company under the new ownership. Let's hope they don't lose their personality, tasty sauces and healthy options amid the transition.

🏍 Remember to share the road: Be on the lookout for motorcycles as Leesburg gears up for Bikefest 2024.

Since getting past the Covid-19 pandemic, the eatery has been more popular than ever. Being an outdoor establishment helped get them through, with the love and support from the community.

“We were surprisingly busy and made a lot of longtime customers during that time,” McGann said.

🐔3 Questions with a local: Eric Johnson, operator of new Chick-fil-A

What did he do before? Eric Johnson worked in the banking industry for two decades before running the bustling Chick-fil-A near Universal Studios for more than 15 years. That stint ended on Feb. 29. He and his wife, Deborah, moved to the Mount Dora-Eustis area in 2016, and they visit Leesburg and Tavares often on the weekends.

What does he plan to do at the new location? "Between what we call family nights or spirit nights, we do random acts of kindness, different events that happen in the local community. We work with what we call 'community heroes.' We honor first responders through different involvements with the police and the firemen and their associations. We also have the Airport Authority, which is close by, and then all the schools and retreat centers in our market here in the Leesburg area."

What's different about the new Chick-fil-A in Leesburg? Johnson said that the dining room will be quieter than those of other fast-food restaurants, separate from the busy kitchen, allowing guests to dine while conducting meetings or computer-work time, made possible by the business's free Wi-Fi. There will also be a "mobile drive-thru."
