KU chancellor plan of action amid Hilltop closure, former Hilltop parent letter
The University of Kansas Office of the Provost sent out an email to students, staff and faculty on Oct. 2 with a message from Chancellor Douglas Girod asking Provost Arash Mafi to convene a work group of faculty and staff to identify childcare solutions for the KU Lawrence community following the closure of KU-affiliated Hilltop Child Development Center at the end of October.

Washburn Rural faced Topeka High last Friday in a matchup between two Topeka-area football teams. Washburn Rural controlled the game and defeated Topeka High 34–7, limiting the Trojans to one touchdown. The Blue Valley North Girl’s Flag Football team took to the turf for the first time ever this fall season, but not without challenges. After a 61-1 KSHSAA vote to sanction the sport in Kansas, the Blue Valley School District initially declined their invitation to the league, citing declining enrollment and shortfalls in special education funding as obstacles to establishing a new sport in all five of their high schools. When Blue Valley students and families heard the news, they rushed to raise the $131,000 necessary to establish the five teams, meeting the requirement in just a month’s time.

KBOR: K-State among state colleges trending up in headcount while 2-year institutions dip
While college enrollment trended down slightly this fall across Kansas, most state universities — including K-State — saw modest jumps in headcount. Between its Manhattan, Salina and Olathe campuses, Kansas State University boasts 21,283 students, according to preliminary reports released Wednesday by the Kansas Board of Regents. That’s a growth of 70 students over last year’s numbers, and the highest fall headcount since 2019.
