NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Electric vehicle chargers are popping up all over Middle Tennessee thanks to more EVs being on the roads.

The two newest additions are coming to Springfield where there are plans to put a charger up outside city hall.

The newest operational charger is in Lebanon off I-40 at the Middle Tennessee Electric’s office. The TVA, MTE, TDEC, and Tridium have come together to build this new station.

TDEC and TVA have donated $25 million to the Fast-Charing Network. The plan is to get EV chargers every 25 miles on major roadways. So far there are 22 locations open, and the goal is to have 80 by 2026.

TVA is partnering up with local power companies to help find stations. TVA will cover 80% of the cost, said Scott Fielder, the TVA Spokesperson.

Brandon Wagoner, Manager of strategy, execution, and analytics at MTE said the opportunity to open this station with TVA’s financial stake involved was too good to pass up. There are four charging ports that are Commission 4 DC Fast Chargers. Each charger charges at a speed of 150 KW.

The chargers are made by Tridium which has a manufacturing plant in Lebanon. You can charge, buy, and generate it locally, according to the TVA.

Wagoner said they will continue to open more charging stations in the future. If you have an EV and are looking for a charge Wagoner suggests the app “PlugShare.”

If you are interested in electric vehicles but don’t know where to start, Middle Tennessee Electric has resources. They have the EV Car Club for those who own or have an interest in cars, a podcast, and a compare car tool on their website. Find out more here .
