A working waterwheel used to power a mill here that first went up around 1835. Today that same mill building holds hotel suites, and the wheel still sits out front for show. I love how one tiny spot can pack that much story into a single block. The mill was rebuilt after the Civil War and kept running until 1985.

FAYETTEVILLE — A long-vacant property on the northeast side of town could soon see development following a City Council decision. The council voted 8-0 on Tuesday to approve rezoning just more than 24 acres northeast of Joyce Boulevard and Old Missouri Road. The property historically has served as farmland and is undeveloped, and will become a community services district. The Planning Commission supported the rezoning with a 6-0 vote in September.
