New Laurel Albertsons store set to open Feb. 2
The Laurel Albertsons store is scheduled to open in February 2024. Mayor Dave Waggoner said Laurel building inspector Jason Gonzalez was informed that the store will open on Feb. 2, 2024. Laurel residents have been eagerly watching the construction taking place on the new store, located at 205 S. First Ave. Laurel has been without a true grocery store since May 2022 when Reese & Ray's IGA closed its doors. Store fixtures were auctioned off and the remodel soon started to convert the space into Albertsons.
Laurel Municipal Airport looks to the future
On September 26, the Laurel Municipal Airport was the scene for an open house event which gave the public an opportunity to take a look at the facility's plans for the future. The airport is nearing completion of a master plan, which will eventually lead to upgraded hangar space, runways, and other improvements. The Airport Master Plan is a vital component of making sure that Laurel's airport meets space requirements to accommodate different styles of aircraft and expansion of the facility.
Billings Receives $1M Grant for New Air Service, Offering More Travel Options to Residents
The City of Billings has been awarded a $1,000,000 Small Community Air Service Development Program (SCASD) grant by the United States Department of Transportation. The city, in partnership with the Tourism Business Improvement District (TBID), the Billings Chamber of Commerce, and Big Sky Economic Development, will use the grant to establish a new air service to San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Painting class with live goats is big hit at High Plains Brewing
In the eight years, Jill Jussila-Patterson has been offer paint and sip classes, she never once had to rescue a phone from a goat. Teaching a goat painting class at High Plains Brewing in Laurel last month was a first in many areas, one of which was getting the most laughs. Nigerian goats Willie and Oscar, Nigerian dwarf goats, who are owned by Kaylee Jacobson, who is the daughter of High Plains' Brenda Frank. They spent the first hour of class braying softly and staying close to Jacobson and her daughter, who were part of the class. Apparently when Willie and Oscar became more accustomed to the people and their surroundings, they got a little naughty, Jussila-Patterson said.
Tops celebrates 75 years, 28 years in Laurel
TOPS, which stands for Take Off Pounds Sensibly, is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Oct. 21. It was founded in 1948 with a national headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisc. Laurel has a TOPS Club, which has been active for 28 years. The chapter meets weekly at the Laurel United Methodist Church basement every Tuesday morning. Weigh-in starts at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at 9 a.m.
