Harvest, 1972 It was harvest time in 1972 at the Kennedy farm south of Clear Lake. Ed Lincicum drove the tractor pulling a carrot harvester while Kenny Johnson drove alongside in the truck catching the carrots.. Fidel Sanchez was on top of the truck watching the carrots pour in and Rolland Sharratt was behind the harvester. The 35-acre farm produced about 15 tons of the long type of carrots per acre, while the average for short carrots ran around 20-25 tons per acre.

Fred Maifeld, age 79, of Kesley, Iowa, was born to John and Esther (Essman) Maifeld on July 23, 1942 at home in rural Ackley. Fred graduated from Ackley High School in 1960 and Ellsworth Community College in 1962. He completed studies at the Graduate School of Banking in Madison, Wisconsin.

Volunteers needed for upcoming TRI Clear Lake Triathlon
CLEAR LAKE, Iowa – Organizers say volunteers are desperately needed for the TRI Clear Lake Triathlon. The event takes place May 25 in the downtown area, starting at City Beach and finishing in City Park. Nearly 600 are expected to compete and organizers say they need 216 volunteers to make sure the athletes have their best race experience.
