LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — More than 130 animals were either adopted or fostered over the weekend helping free up much-needed space at The Animal Foundation.

Las Vegas-area animal shelter reaches critical space crisis, seeks immediate foster homes

Last week, the shelter announced it reached a critical space crisis. There was no housing available for dogs at the shelter and the staff were facing some very difficult decisions.

“This is our heartbreaking reality, but we just don’t have room for the new animals that are coming in every day.”

The public responded to the shelter’s call for help by fostering or adopting animals to free up space for incoming animals.

According to The Animal Foundation’s website, it’s one of the highest-volume single-site animal shelters in America. Last year, it saved nearly 17,000 lost, homeless, and often mistreated pets. In addition to doing adoptions, the shelter has a foster program that allows people to foster a pet for as “little as an afternoon, a weekend, or a few weeks.”
