EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — NMCO Studio and Success Partnership are inviting the community to their newest photo project called “Desert Heroines”.

The exhibit will debut at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17 in the New Mexico State University’s (NMUS) University Art Museum in Devasthali Hall, located at 1308 E. University Ave. A panel discussion will follow at 6:30 p.m.

According to the news release by NMCO Creative Studio, “Desert Heroines” will be a photo gallery celebrating Women’s History Month, honoring women in the community.

“As an art museum committed to championing art, artists, and cultural leaders who accurately reflect and amplify the voices of our diverse cultural communities, especially those who are female, underrepresented, and marginalized, the University Art Museum at NMSU is deeply honored to collaborate with NMCO for Desert Heroines,” said Director of the University Art Museum Marisa Sage.

“This initiative celebrates women who advocate for equity, diversity, and inclusion, aligning perfectly with our mission and values. I can’t wait to see these inspirational Heroines of Southern New Mexico grace the walls of the Mullennix Bridge Gallery. It’s sure to be a powerful and moving exhibition,” Sage added.

According to NMCO Studio, the project marks the fifth annual project for NMCO and the third year with Success Partnership NM. Photographer Yashoda Latkar marks her first year with NMCO Studio. She is a recent NMSU grad and local photographer.

“I am grateful for the incredible journey of photographing five extraordinary women from the Las Cruces community. Working on this project has been nothing short of amazing. From the very first day, I have been captivated by the stories and resilience of these Desert Heroines. The collaboration with Success-NM and the outstanding team at NMCO has been a highlight of this experience. Together we are celebrating the dedication and contributions of these remarkable women who empower and inspire all of us,” Latkar said.
