Big Sur Bakery is gone after decades keeping tourists fed on almond croissants and take-home jars of jam. Around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, May 3, firefighters responded to a structure fire at the bakery on Highway 1 but were unable to keep the blaze from burning the business to the ground. News station KSBW 8 reports that there were no injuries, and the Chronicle confirms the cause of the fire is still unknown.

4 people rescued after boat capsizes in Tomales Bay
Four people were rescued Sunday afternoon off the coast of Marin County after their boat overturned, according to authorities. Just after 2:30 p.m., the Marin County Fire Department requested rescue assistance from the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office's Henry-1 helicopter after a boat overturned in Tomales Bay. The Henry-1 had already been nearby for water rescue demonstrations at the Bodega Bay Fisherman's Festival and made it to the site in 7 minutes, according to the Sheriff's Office. The Henry-1 crew located the upside-down boat in the Bay with two people clinging to the boat and two other people sitting on the hull. The Henry-1 landed nearby and carried out a long-line rescue while paramedics were flown to the victims. A tactical flight officer began rescuing the people one by one. All of those rescued were flown to a nearby residence and then taken to an ambulance, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff. Their current condition is not known.
Shoplifter convicted of stealing $60K of merchandise from SF Target
A woman was convicted of stealing $60,000 worth of merchandise from the Target in San Francisco's Stonestown Galleria via the store's self-checkout system. Aziza Graves, 43, was busted after shoplifting on dozens of occasions at the Target from October 2020 to November 2021. Graves was also seen by police sometimes selling the stolen goods at the UN Plaza downtown to other people who deal shoplifted merchandise as well as random passersby, the San Francisco district attorney's office said.
Shooting near Lake Merritt in Oakland leaves 1 dead
Oakland police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Sunday in the city's Merritt neighborhood. Just before Sunday noon, Oakland officers were alerted to a reported shooting in the 1200 block of First Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a victim with at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics gave initial aid but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Police did not publicly release the victim's identity pending notification to next of kin. San Francisco police arrest woman, seize illegal gaming machines in Tenderloin raid
A 45-year-old woman was arrested and more than a dozen gaming machines, cash and suspected narcotics were seized in a raid on an illegal gambling establishment in the Tenderloin, San Francisco police said Friday.The woman, Trang Thuy Thanh Tran of Oakland, was accused of operating the establishment in the 700 block of Ellis Street after officers executed a search warrant Thursday afternoon, police said. Several other adults were detained, according to police.In addition to the gambling machines, officers seized a loaded firearm, over $3,000 in cash, suspected drugs and equipment used for the sales of narcotics, police said.The San Francisco Sheriff's Office and the Army National Guard Counterdrug Taskforce assisted in the operation, police said.

A massive school of anchovy in the San Francisco Bay has lured approximately 1,700 sea lions to Pier 39 near the city’s Fisherman’s Wharf district. Not since the early 1990s has the area seen this many sea lions, Sheila Candor, Harbormaster at Pier 39, told the Associated Press. In recent decades, less than a thousand sea lions flopped onto the pier each spring.
