The Laporte softball team improved their record to 3-2 with a 15-0 shut out at home April 30 over Red Lake.

In a game shortened to four innings due to weather, Macey Morris picked up the win. She went all four innings, only gave up two hits — both came in the first inning — and fanned eight.

Laporte broke the game open with a six-run second and followed with eight in the fourth.

Hannah Backus had three of Laporte’s nine hits. Anna Katzenmeyer and Kylee Reimer each two singles, while Ila McDougle and Morris both had one hit, and Izabel Padgett walked twice. Katzenmeyer and McDougle each had three RBIs, and Reimer drove in one run.

Reimer drove in the first run in the opening inning, scoring Backus on a single.

In the next inning, the first run scored on a wild pitch. Katzenmeyer followed with a two-run single. She scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead, and Backus followed with a single and would also score on a wild pitch. Two batters later Reimer reached on a single and scored on a double steal.

Laporte had triples by Backus and Morris, and an inside-the-park home run by McDougle in the fourth. Backus and Morris both scored on wild pitches, and McDougle’s hit accounted for three RBI.

The final three runs were scored by Tatiana Wright, Tatiyana Weikle and Katzenmeyer.

This week Laporte hosts both Cass Lake-Bena and Hill City-Northland, and travels to Blackduck. Next week they host Bagley and play Lake of the Woods at Bemidji State University.

Backus and Lilly Ewert has the other hits for Laporte.

Morris went the distance allowing all five earned runs on 10 hits with four strike outs.

The Tigers, who finished with 10 hits, scored twice in the first and two more times in the third. Their final run came in the fifth.
