Clover schools picks a new superintendent. What to know about this former principal
The Clover School District named Rod Ruth as its new superintendent, completing a countywide turnover of top school officials and setting a course for a new educational era within the district . The school board finalized a contract with Ruth on Monday. Ruth will replace Sheila Quinn , who announced in August that she intended to retire. Ruth has been the district’s Chief Student Services and Secondary Education Officer the past three years. Ruth was principal at Clover High from 2015 to 2023. In that time the school was a finalist for the Palmetto’s Finest award and Ruth was named South Carolina Secondary Principal of the Year in 2022. “As a board, we were impressed with the caliber of the senior leadership team and knew that we had the opportunity to consider all options here in Clover School District before looking elsewhere,” said school board Chairman Rob Wallace. Hiring Ruth allowed the board to get insight beyond just what a candidate could present in one interview. “We have been able to watch him work over the past decade and know the type of proven leader he is each and every day,” Wallace said. Rock Hill looks to redraw high school attendance lines. What could be impacted?
Rock Hill high school attendance lines could change, giving nearly 900 students the option to switch schools. The Rock Hill Schools board will hear presentations Tuesday night on how to redraw lines that have been in place since South Pointe High opened 2005. New lines also would affect Northwestern and Rock Hill high schools. The largest single change based on current enrollment, according to a recommendation from a demographer consulting with the district, would be 331 students whose zoned district would move from Rock Hill to South Pointe. In all, 897 students would change school zones. Existing high school students wouldn’t have to change schools, but the new boundaries would be phased in as younger students move up to high school. Two presentations on the proposed boundary changes are on the school board agenda, followed by a potential approval. The 5 p.m. meeting Tuesday at the school district office will start with an executive session. The public business meeting will follow at 6:30 p.m. If approved, the changes would begin next school year. Students already enrolled in high school would be able to finish where they are. Another proposed change would let students who start high school while an older
