LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The family of a woman killed after a two-car roll crash that resulted in a rollover on Thursday is devastated over the loss of the mother of two.

Antonia Jones, 33, was better known by family and coworkers at McLaren Greater Lansing as Toni.

She spent 10 years of her life-saving lives as an emergency department technician.

“I’ve already had that wailing mother moment, you know, and then I just felt a big peace rush over me and I’ve been like that ever since,” said Edalea Gelispie, Jones’ mother.

Lansing Police said a 45-year-old man crashed into Jones at the intersection of W. Oakland Ave. and N. Pine St. on Thursday night. She died 4 days later surrounded by family.

Police officials tell 6 News, that witnesses said the man was seen speeding and running red lights before the crash. Police officials say alcohol and speed are likely factors and are seeking charges.

As for Gelispie, she’s waiting for justice.

“The amount of love that’s been shown throughout this whole community to our whole family has been overwhelming and beautiful. and now it’s just that little piece right there,” she said.

Since the crash, two trauma nurses who worked with Jones have raised more than $14 thousand dollars for her family.

Bea Johannes said it’s the least she can do for the woman who could lighten the mood around the emergency department.

“It’s just evident by the amount people have been giving how much everyone loves Toni. And when I say she’s selfless, one of the most selfless human beings I’ve met in my life,” she said.

She said the hospital is also in mourning. The flags in front of McLaren Greater Lansing are at half-mast for 10 days, a day for each year of service as an emergency department technician.

Toni chose a career that put her in the position to serve others and care for them in the ER, during what can be frightening times for patients, demonstrating what it meant to be a caregiver.

She was someone who made a positive and sincere impact on her coworkers, and our hearts go out to all those who love Toni.

Surrounded by flowers and memories of Jones, family, and friends remember her as a woman dedicated to her community.

“She was kind and that’s what I’ll take from her,” said Maria Jones, her sister, “Just to be a genuine person. It does not cost nothing to be a genuine person.”

Genuine and giving — in life and death — the E.R. technician donated her organs to help save even more lives.
