Tuesday, April 30: May comes in warm, humid and with near-daily storm chances
By Jamie Warriner,

The line of severe storms from earlier today has since broken up into two groups of thunder, one in Southeast Iowa (fading) and another in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma storms will remain severe a while longer as they build south and southeast into unstable air. Some stronger storms may clip areas from Lamar to Berryville and west. Showers with some occasional lightning are possible further east.
The setup will keep a risk for rain going over Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas into Wednesday morning with excessive rainfall just west of the area over Oklahoma and Southeast Kansas tonight where the low-level jet will keep showers and thunderstorms firing.
The leftover area of rain and thunder to the west and southwest Wednesday morning will likely keep skies rather cloudy with some rain across Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas.
This activity should fade later in the morning with partly sunny, warm and humid weather in the afternoon with a few pop-up showers and storms possible, mainly north of Hwy. 60. These should not be severe.
Another cold front will approach on Thursday with scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and evening. A few of these storms could be severe with a threat of hail and wind.
Quieter weather moves in for a day Friday with an unsettled pattern to follow through the weekend into early next week. A trough in the west will send a series of storms through the region generating a daily chance for scattered storms. The severe weather risk is low with these rounds, but can’t be ruled out entirely.
We’re keeping an eye on the pattern for early next week. A stronger storm system may move into the middle of the country. This would bring a higher risk of severe weather back to the middle of the country.
The overall pattern for May looks unsettled with wetter-than-normal conditions.
