(NEXSTAR) – Paralympic table tennis gold medalist Ian Seidenfeld is heading to Paris this summer. The 23-year-old from Lakeville, Minnesota won a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. He is the first U.S. para table tennis player to win gold since 1996.

“I hang on all of the losses that I’ve had, probably more so than the wins,” Seidenfeld said.

During the U.S. Olympic Media Summit in New York City in April, Seidenfeld said having his dad as his coach has led to a lot of fights, but always brings them closer together.

“I appreciate everything he’s done for me, even though I probably don’t always show it in the best way,” Seidenfeld said.

His father also won a gold medal in table tennis in the 1992 Paralympics. Seidenfeld has a full-time job and trains after work six days a week.
