Heading into the Class 1A, District 6 championship game, All Saints boys lacrosse coach Dylan Hoff knew his team had dropped two regular-season contests against Lake Wales, but it wasn’t about harping on the past.

Instead, he and his All Saints group focused on wanting to show everyone how much better they’ve gotten since losing to teams like Lake Wales and Lakeland Christian earlier in the year.

And the Saints proved why they were a better team on Wednesday night in a 7-3 win Wednesday over Lake Wales, which clinched the program’s third district championship in school history.

“It’s awesome,” Hoff said. "I think the senior class in particular has eight awesome kids. They put everything they have in it every day. They are better people than they are players, (and) that’s just kind of trickled through this whole team. Really fortunate to have a group of 32 guys that show up ready to work every day, with a good attitude and puts forth their best …”

The best for the Saints came in the second half. The Saints were down 2-1 before Connor Williams tied up the score, then Aaron Braamse scored the go-ahead goal with 8:23 to go in the third.

“I snuck it in,” Brammse said. “I basically put my hands to the other side, so it was just a super lucky play and I just like my teammates for this one. All Glory to God (and) all praise to the Lord All Mighty."

Braamse scored another goal with 5:28 to go in the third to make it 5-2, which put the game out of reach.

Other All Saints scorers were Barrett Green with two goals, and Wesley Sorenson and Reagann Williams both scored a goal each.

Lake Wales (11-7) goal scorers were Jon Robinson with two goals and Caio Rossini with a goal.

“The first half they had the ball a lot. They played a lot of really good defense," Hoff said. "Goalie made some saves. In the second half we just really dominated the time of possession. And I think that led to more chances.”

All Saints (10-4) will play in the regional semifinals next Wednesday.
