Cavaliers advance to NCAA Championship with second place finish at Baton Rouge Regional
With a team score of 13-under this week, the Cavaliers thoroughly dismantled the layout of the University Club in Baton Rouge, La. and, in doing so, have fought their way into the NCAA Championships beginning Friday in Carlsbad, Calif. Virginia entered this week’s competition ranked No. 13 in the May 3 NCAA rankings and sought to prove themselves to that point following what was an up-and-down fifth-place performance at the ACC Championships.
Graduating student leaders reflect on how they impacted the University community
During their time at the University, the Class of 2024 navigated several challenges, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the Nov. 13, 2022 shooting. Their class was the first to begin their time at the University amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, navigating a delayed move into University housing as well as a year with both virtual and in-person classes. Amidst these tumultuous events, students within the class rose to positions of leadership. As they created clubs and represented students through work in traditional student self-governance organizations, this graduating class demonstrated its resilience over the past four years.
The naked party uncovered
In a university steeped in old traditions, few students witness the rise of a new one during their time on Grounds. From Lighting of the Lawn to Block Party, many students adopt University traditions that have been passed down from one generation to the next. But, for the past five semesters, some students have experienced the creation of a new tradition — the naked party.
Payton Cormier breaks Division I goals record
The game kept going, and the goals kept mounting. Graduate attackman Payton Cormier, chasing a monumental record, scored again and again. He tallied five goals by halftime of Virginia’s first-round NCAA Tournament game Saturday against St. Joseph’s, pushing himself to the brink of breaking a slew of records. The records were shattered in the third quarter, when he somehow scored three times more.
What I will miss most about U.Va.
Editor’s note: This article is a humor column. Ah, college — the best four years of your life. As I approach my final days on Grounds, I find myself reflecting on all the memories that I have made here. Am I ready for this adventure of a lifetime to be over? Of course not. So as I say goodbye, I want to celebrate what I will miss most about the University.

Teacher retention, stability top priorities for Charlottesville High School’s new principal
Justin Malone, currently serving as principal at Jackson-Via Elementary School, is set to be Charlottesville High School’s new principal come July 1. This marks Malone’s return to CHS, where he previously served as an assistant principal from 2013 to 2017. Prior to his time at CHS, Malone began his career as a special education teacher in Greene County and advanced to leadership positions within the school division.
