LAKE MILLS — Sixth-ranked Jefferson scored a pair of early runs and knocked off fourth-ranked Lake Mills 2-0 in nonconference softball at Rotary Park on Monday.

The Eagles (10-4) loaded the bases right off the bat. Hildie Dempsey reached on an error before Lily Fairfield bunted for a hit, her first of three hits in the game, and Bre Mengel drew a walk. A fielder’s choice, which saw shortstop Haydenn Sellnow fire home, cut down a run at the plate. Aeryn Messmann’s fielder’s choice to the left side of the infield scored Fairfield.

Fairfield singled up the middle with one out in the third. She stole second base and reached third on defensive interference, scoring when Messmann reached on an error in the infield.

Jefferson starter Ashlyn Enke was lights out. She took a no-hitter into the sixth before Savannah Radtke singled with two outs. Enke tossed a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts, one walk, facing just two hitters above the minimum while throwing 71 of her 96 pitches for strikes.

Center fielder Emily Wollin threw out a runner trying to score from second base on a Dempsey single to end the fourth.

Lake Mills (13-2) starter Aubrey Lepak also went the distance, allowing one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts, six walks.
