Sisters Olivia Klubertanz and Mckenna Klubertanz scored first-half goals for Lake Mills, which knocked off visiting Fort Atkinson 3-1 in nonconference girls soccer on Friday to extend its win streak to four games.

Olivia Klubertanz, a senior, scored off sophomore Greta Wiedenfeld’s assist in the 17th minute. Mckenna Klubertanz, a freshman, curved a corner kick into the back of the net in the 31st minute.

Fort, playing downwind, cut its deficit in half when Jenna Wudtke scored on Allison Smiley’s assist in the 61st minute. The L-Cats (9-2) pushed their lead back to two goals in the 63rd minute, when Wiedenfeld scored on freshman Grace Ninneman’s assist.

“It was a quick turnaround from the physical Baraboo game, but I’m so proud of how our girls battled through the back to back nights,” Lake Mills girls soccer coach Jeff Hegstrom said. “We generated a lot of possession tonight and saw a wonderful top shelf goal from Olivia, and we scored off a corner from her sister, Mckenna, a few minutes later.

“Greta also had a wonderful showing tonight with a goal and an assist. We’re looking forward to taking this recent momentum into next week.”

Freshman Milan Fullerton stopped four shots for Lake Mills while senior Gracyn Heine made six saves for Fort.

On Tuesday, Lake Mills plays at Lodi.

    THURSDAY’S RESULT

BARABOO — Lake Mills scored three times in a 17-minute span in the first half, topping host Baraboo 3-0 in nonconference play on Thursday, April 25.

Junior Addie Ninneman’s penalty kick in the 23rd minute broke a scoreless tie. Sophomore Mollie Cooper scored on senior Addison Roberts’ assist in the 35th before Ninneman, assisted by Mckenna Klubertanz, scored at the 39:13 mark for the final margin.

Fullerton made six saves for her third straight clean sheet.

“Tonight, we saw some of our best soccer yet against a very talented Baraboo team,” Hegstrom said. “A number of girls had their best games to date, and we’ll need everyone to play at that high level moving forward, if we want to achieve our team goals this season.

“Addie Ninneman and Mollie had fantastic goals, Addy Roberts and Mckenna Klubertanz had brilliant plays to get them those moments. Ayla Buth, Emma Kitsembel, Annalyse Fuglestad, Sophia Guerrero and Maren Gensler really did a great job with some tough talent from Baraboo up top.

“But the star of the night was Milan Fullerton, who had a number of full extension saves, saved a few 1v1 moments from defensive breakdowns and earned every bit of that clean sheet. I couldn’t be more proud of this team tonight.”

    TUESDAY’S RESULT

COLUMBUS — Senior Ava Schmidt scored a hat trick, fueling Lake Mills’ 3-0 road victory over Columbus in Capitol Conference soccer on Tuesday, April 23.

Schmidt scored on senior Addison Roberts’ assist just 62 seconds into the game, adding a fifth minute goal assisted by junior Addie Ninneman. Schmidt, off an assist by sophomore Mollie Cooper, capped the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute.

Freshman keeper Milan Fullerton made four saves in her clean sheet for the L-Cats (7-2, 2-1 in conference).

“Tonight, Columbus did what Columbus usually does, and that is make it difficult to score on them,” Lake Mills girls soccer coach Jeff Hegstrom said. “We really came out fast with aggressive play and high energy. Addison, Addie and Mollie all had great finds to Ava, who converted her hat trick inside the 6.

“Ava played with a crash and be near the goal mentality, and it paid off big time. It was a tough battle, but I’m really proud of our girls for staying the course, and earning another shutout win.”
