There is an increased risk of flash flooding and severe thunderstorms Thursday.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for portions of the area from early Thursday morning through the early evening hours, National Weather Service Lake Charles Storm Warning Coordinator Doug Cramer said.

The watch will be in effect through 1 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursday for areas along and north of Interstate 10.

Cramer said a second round of showers and thunderstorms will move across the region on Friday.

“Unfortunately, there’s been another signal that this might happen again,” he said.

In the first round, heavy rain and a slow-moving storms will cause the risk of flash flooding. A second round of severe thunderstorms are likely Friday during the afternoon with damaging winds being the main threat.

Cramer said 2-4 inches of rainfall is possible Thursday with a possible total of six inches over the next three days.

He does not expect any tornadoes with this round of storms.
