High Desert Astronomical Society to host public telescope viewing in Apple Valley
Local astronomy enthusiasts are inviting the public to peer into the depths of the universe during a public observation night on Friday. The High Desert Astronomical Society will be hosting the event, which is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Luz Observatory at the Apple Valley Center for Innovation, 20702 Thunderbird Road in Apple Valley, organizers said.

REDLANDS, Calif. – May is National Bicycle Safety Month, and the Redlands Police Department reminds drivers to share the road and offers tips for biking safely. Why it matters: The number of bicyclists killed and injured while riding bikes has increased in recent years, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In 2022, 1,105 people were killed while riding a bike, a 15% increase from 2020. The number of bicyclists injured increased by about 20% between 2020 - 2022.
Amazon workers claim company violated California labor laws
At Amazon's Air Hub in San Bernardino, people are working hard to pack and ship packages, but some say they're being short-changed on their rest breaks. "Every summer we've had at the building, we've had to fight for our rest breaks for heat," ramp agent Cynthia Ayala said. Ayala said she works outside loading and unloading aircraft for four 10-hour weekly shifts, plus overtime. The Town of Apply Valley is planning a Star Wars-themed community fun run this weekend to coincide with the unofficial galactic holiday of May the 4th. The "May the 4th 3K and 5K Fun Run" will step off at 6 p.m. Saturday at Civic Center Park, 14999 Dale Evans Parkway, according to the Apple Valley Parks and Recreation Department. Stabbing investigation underway near 7-Eleven on Roy Rogers Drive in Victorville
VICTORVILLE, Calif. (VVNG.com) — A stabbing victim was airlifted to a trauma center Tuesday morning in Victorville. Just after 9:00 am, on April 30, 2024, the City of Victorville fire department was requested to respond to the area of Roy Rogers Drive and Civic for a stabbing. Firefighters requested an airship to airlift the male victim.
Mountain lion sighted near Yucca Loma School in Apple Valley
Residents claimed to have seen a mountain lion roaming in an Apple Valley neighborhood on Monday night. Regina Jones told the Daily Press that at around 9 p.m., she saw a mountain lion near the corner of Yucca Loma and Rancherias roads. Yucca Loma School and park are located near the intersection, just west of Navajo Road.
