Enrichment group plans cleanup initiatives
The City of Whitney’s Community Enrichment Group met Thursday, May 30, and discussed upcoming initiatives to clean up the city and assist citizens. Among the items discussed were new monthly dump days for Whitney residents at the Itasca landfill, storm cleanup efforts with G&B Services and city crews, a city-wide cleanup set for later this month and other projects that are still in the works.

Waco man pleads guilty after failing to seek prompt help for daughter fatally wounded by relative’s gun
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - A Waco man who delayed seeking medical treatment for his critically injured daughter to retrieve a backpack with marijuana in it pleaded guilty Monday. Jaylon Caton-Wayne Thornton, 26, pleaded guilty to a first-degree felony injury to a child charge, acknowledging that he failed to seek timely medical treatment for his 22-month-old daughter, Zillyana, who died after she was shot with a family member’s pistol in May 2022.
