A Lafayette man allegedly pulled a gun on a child in a parking lot on Thursday.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday, 40-year-old David Medina was sitting in a white SUV with the driver’s side door partially open when a group of kids approached his vehicle curiously after allegedly seeing guns in his car.

Medina allegedly told the kids he had a handgun in his backpack and a shotgun in the SUV.

He allegedly told police he was moving the guns around after having an argument with his girlfriend, which is when the children saw the guns.

One of the kids allegedly ran back to their mother who was in a nearby park and told her a man had a shotgun in the parking lot.

One of the children allegedly said “Medina racked the black shotgun, pointed it at him and told him he better run,” according to the affidavit.

The affidavit said that the child's description of the length of the shotgun matched the firearm found in Medina's SUV and its safety was turned off.

Medina was charged with two counts of intimidation, one of pointing a firearm, one of criminal recklessness and one of public intoxication. The intimidation charges are Level 5 and Level 6 felony charges respectively.

He is being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
