Change for the better: Lakes Region music scene full of opportunity
LACONIA — The local music scene could be characterized numerous ways — seasonal, varied, complicated and burgeoning come to mind. Visitors will find, playing at local restaurants and other stages, immense talent and a fierce love for the Lakes Region. While tourists come and go, local bards remain, banging away on their instruments and singing their songs day after day and night after night.
Blooms Brews & BBQ fundraiser Saturday
GILFORD — Gilford Rotary is teaming with Greens & Beans to present Blooms, Brews & BBQ on Saturday, May 18, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at Greens & Beans on Intervale Road in Gilford. There will be activities for the family including live music by Karen Grenier who is returning from last year, greenhouse tours, corn hole toss, firetruck tour, farm animal petting zoo and games for the kids. Tickets for the Kids Fun Park will also be available to purchase.
Pasquaney Garden Club to host annual plant sale at the Minot-Sleeper Library
BRISTOL — Pasquaney Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to noon behind the Minot-Sleeper Library in Bristol. The sale primarily offers perennials dug from local gardens of members and community friends. Divisions are also dug and potted from some of the featured plantings in the Butterfly Garden behind the Library. As in past years, the variety of plants will include some of the time tested favorites hardy to our area and some more unusual, but proven successful with local gardeners.
LRAA to host event about the common loon
TILTON — With their haunting cries and beautiful plumage, common loons are an iconic symbol of the northern wilderness. Join the Lakes Region Art Association for An Uncommon Look at the Common Loon, a slideshow exploring the natural history of loons in the north country. West Newbury, Vermont-based photographer Ian Clark spent nearly 2,000 hours kayaking with loons over the last decade and has taken over 250,000 photos of loons and their behaviors.
