Keep it Simple: Good water, good memories at Irontone Springs | Opinion

Irontone, aka Frank Wilkinson Park, sits on the east side of Old 27 halfway between Gaylord and Vanderbilt, with a lovely narrow north/south stream named Mossback Creek gently flowing its length. Two wooden foot bridges allow visitors access from the parking lot to this quietly unassuming gem of Otsego County with its picnic tables and pavilion, all reeking of pastoral serenity. It has long been a favorite setting for wedding and senior portrait photo shoots, and with good reason. The water and mature trees are a perfect backdrop for such activities and the pavilion is always a draw for family reunions and other festive occasions. August 7 of this year was a day of note for the tiny park. It was the first time in almost a year and a half it was officially reopened to the public. At the end of March last year Irontone Springs, like most of the county, had its bell severely rung after the ice storm of all ice storms
