CHAMBERS COUNTY – The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin a project to upgrade the traffic signal equipment at the intersection of US-431 and 2 nd Avenue in the City of LaFayette on Monday, May 13 at 7 p.m. CDT , weather permitting, according to an ALDOT press release.

This project will provide an upgrade to the old signal system, including items such as new traffic signal indicators, new pedestrian push buttons and pedestrian signaling devices, and new lighting as well as other new traffic signal equipment.

Workers will be on site each night from Monday, May 13 to Friday, May 17 between the hours of 7 p.m. and 5 a.m. CDT .

On Monday night , the old traffic signal will be removed. From Monday night and continuing until work is complete, there will not be a traffic signal controlling traffic at the intersection of US-431 and 2 nd Avenue. Traffic at this intersection will operate under the following conditions from Monday night until the new signal is operational later in the week:

    • Traffic on US-431 will not be required to stop at 2 nd Avenue
    • Traffic on 2 nd Avenue will be controlled by stop signs at US-431

Motorists are advised to use extreme caution and pay attention to all signs and warning devices while this work is being performed.  While no movement will be restricted at this intersection during this project, drivers may consider alternate routes until the new signal is operational.

ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this maintenance operation to improve the functionality of our roadways.  ALDOT’s mission is to provide a safe, efficient, environmentally sound transportation network across Alabama.  For further information, visit www.dot.state.al.us .
