New mental health facility to open in downtown La Crosse

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- A new mental health facility is coming to downtown La Crosse thanks to a local grant.

Tellurian Behavioral Health received a $50,000 grant from La Crosse Community Foundation to make space for an eight-bed facility for adults experiencing a mental health crisis.

Jackson House will offer care and supervision without the need for medical clearance.

It's designed to reduce dependency on emergency rooms and law enforcement, allowing for immediate care without additional stress.

"This is part of a model that's been proven effective across other parts of the country, and Wisconsin is bringing that here," said Tim Blumentritt, social services director of Tellurian Behavioral Health.

"Individuals, sometimes in a matter of hours, can be supported and connected to services and return to the community, and that's the goal of this program."

The facility will provide a variety of services including residential drug and alcohol treatment. It is expected to open mid to late summer.
