Showers & T-storms taper off just after midnight; otherwise dry conditions on Wednesday

WHAT WE ARE TRACKING: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to occur briefly this evening before dry conditions return on Wednesday. Additional showers and thunderstorms are likely Thursday and Thursday night, with heavy rainfall possibly occurring.

NEXT 24 HRS: Showers and thunderstorms will shift east of the area after 1 AM, with cloud cover decreasing after midnight for areas south of Eau Claire. Some thunderstorms may contain gusty winds or small haill . Temperatures will fall into the upper 40s to lower 50s by sunrise before climbing into the middle 60s to near 70 on Wednesday. Although areas south of La Crosse will see plenty of sun on Wednesday morning, some cloud cover will stick around for areas north of La Crosse, especially north of Eau Claire. Cloud cover increases again for areas south of La Crosse towards Wednesday evening.

LOOKING AHEAD: Although a quiet Wednesday, a couple of systems will impact the area Wednesday night through Saturday, resulting in periods of showers or thunderstorms. Despite this active pattern, there will be plenty of dry periods, especially on Friday and Saturday. The wettest or washout period is Thursday through Thursday night when heavy rain is possible. As of now, the severe risk appears low through the period, although there remains a threat on Thursday. High temperatures remain mainly in the 60s to low 70s through the weekend.  After a nice Sunday, another system brings more shower and thunderstorm chances to the area Monday through Tuesday. As of now, the second half of next week appears mainly dry with seasonable temperatures.
