    Neighbor's Day Yard Clean Up

LA CROSSE (WKBT) -- Saturday, the community came together to clean up the yards of those who can't do it themselves.

Neighbor's day is an annual effort by Habitat for Humanity and volunteers to help elderly and disabled neighbors get their yards ready for the spring.

For over 30 years, on the last Saturday of April, volunteers from around La Crosse have geared up to rake leaves, clean windows, and trim shrubs for the good of the community.

Kahya Fox is Habitat for Humanity's Executive Director, she expressed the importance of Neighbor's Day.

"We all have residents in our communities that, ya know they take really great pride in their homes", said Fox. "But as people get older or people with disabilities, they aren't able to take care of their yards like the rest of us. So it's an opportunity for neighbors to help their neighbors."

About 400 volunteers helped clean up 200 yards this year.

Residents are able to sign up yearly by contacting Habitat for Humanity.
