This North Carolina Amish Bulk Store Sends You Home With Way More Than You Came For
Plenty of people walk into a small country store planning to grab one thing. Most of them walk out with two bags and a new favorite errand. In the tiny Chatham County town of Moncure, just off US 1, a family-run shop has quietly turned quick stops into full pantry hauls. It stocks bulk baking staples, Amish-made goods, fresh pies, and a candy wall that can derail even the most disciplined shopping list.

After an abrupt exit, retail merchandising carts are back at Crabtree Mall
After a brief hiatus, the retail merchandising carts are back at Crabtree Valley Mall, with mall owners, Macerich, posting leasing signs on units in the hallways this week. In September 2025, retail merchandising unit (RMUs) operators were informed that they would have to leave at the end of the month. After buying the mall in June 2025, Macerich shared plans of $60 million worth of upgrades for a “light, bright and more modern” look, The News & Observer previously reported. “The relaunch of the RMU program is an exciting part of Crabtree’s ongoing transformation,” Macerich said in a statement. “As we continue to modernize the center and elevate the guest experience, we’re introducing a new generation of RMUs featuring a sleek, contemporary design that complements the center’s refreshed look and feel.” Retail merchandising units are different from kiosks. The RMUs are mall-owned, movable carts that the property provides and maintains, with tenants renting both the cart and the space. Kiosks are custom-built and maintained by the tenant, with ownership leasing only the space. The mall’s kiosk program has never left. “The updated RMUs feature a streamlined design that supports improved traffic flow and space utilization while providing unique concepts an

Craft beer woes continue as a pioneering Durham bar shuts off taps for good
A pioneering beer bar in Durham will end its nine-year run on Halloween, the latest signal in the ongoing slide of craft beer. The self-serve beer bar Pour Taproom announced this week that its last service would be Oct. 31, capping off nearly a decade of business in the very heart of Durham. Pour is best known for introducing self-serve beer taps to Durham in 2017. The bar featured a wall of 64 beer, wine and cider taps and would charge customers by the ounce, keeping a running tab connected to a digital wristband. Andrew Shaver, a co-owner of Pour Durham, said the bar tapped into the excitement and energy going on in craft beer at the time. “The self-serve model was a fun way to sample and participate in this massive movement of high quality, interesting beer,” Shaver said in an interview. “Everyone was into it at the time. You gave up the element of the charming bartender on that side of the transaction. But it allowed you to sample one, two, three, four, five different craft beers. Pour was never meant to replace the traditional bar, but this was a niche way to participate in the craft beer

Five Guys burger chain makes plans for a downtown Raleigh location. What we know
Virginia-founded fast food chain Five Guys Burgers & Fries is expanding into downtown Raleigh’s Fayetteville Street, according to sketch plans filed with the city. While those involved have declined to comment, Five Guys has begun the process to customize 442 Fayetteville St. to accommodate the national chain’s specifications, according to plans filed on Monday, Oct 19 . “There is nothing to comment on at this time,” said an employee of real estate company, CBRE, that manages leasing for the high-foot-traffic site. The building at 442 Fayetteville St., located in downtown Raleigh’s City Plaza, is owned by Highwoods Properties Inc., a real estate investment trust that is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. Although the sketch plans have been submitted, they still have to undergo review. Five Guys is seeking to renovate the interior and create additional space in the rear of the building for walk-in cooler and storage space. The plan review is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 4. Earlier this year, Fayetteville Street and Downtown Raleigh were the subject of an opinion piece by a local business owner published in The News & Observer. The piece addressed reasons the writer believes many downtown businesses are struggling right now.

Cat Lovers Will Lose Their Minds Inside This North Carolina Restaurant Covered In Feline Decor
Giant 3-D cats poke their whiskery faces right through the walls at this place. Yes, actual walls. I can’t imagine eating dinner without staring back at them. The owners even asked neighbors to donate their own cat-themed treasures. So the kitty art covering every corner came partly from the people who live nearby.
