VSP Investigating Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Mecklenburg County
Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Tuesday, May 28, at 10:37 p.m. on Route 47 in Mecklenburg County. A 2023 Ford Ranger was heading northbound on Route 47, near its intersection with Route 655, when the Ranger drifted off the road to the right, went down an embankment, and struck a utility pole. The Ranger then went into a field where it rolled over multiple times.

• On May 13, Gertie Williams reported an incident of larceny (taking carport) in the Valley Drive, Warrenton, area. Reported stolen was an aluminum carport valued at $5,000. • On May 11, Amarha Cheek-Halloway reported an incident of simple assault and larceny in the area of Pay Jay’s. Reported stolen was an iPhone valued at $1,000.
Local State Trooper receives Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr., Crime Prevention Award
RICHMOND – A local Virginia State Police trooper is once again the recipient of the Department's Annual Senior Trooper Robert A. Hill, Sr., Crime Prevention Award. On Wednesday, May 22, 2024, Colonel Gary T. Settle, Superintendent of the Virginia State Police, presented the award to Senior Trooper James E. Weidman during an awards ceremony at the Virginia State Police Academy in Chesterfield. Weidman is assigned to State Police Chesapeake Division’s Area 35, which covers the counties of Brunswick and Greensville, and the city of Emporia. Weidman also received the 2023 award this past December.
